Overview

Bouinan Church is a colonial-era church in the commune of Bouinan (sometimes listed as Bouinan-Bouinan), situated at the foot of the Blida Atlas mountains on the southern edge of the Mitidja plain. The church is noted for its preserved stone façade and colonial architecture.

Bouinan Commune

Bouinan occupies a strategic position between the Mitidja plain and the Atlas foothills — on the historic approach route towards Chréa and the mountain passes. This geographical position made it significant both agriculturally and militarily during the colonial period.

Architectural Note

The stone construction of Bouinan Church is characteristic of buildings in areas where local Atlas limestone was readily available — a contrast with the brick and render construction more typical of the Mitidja plain churches.
