Overview

Bougara Church is a colonial-era Catholic church in the commune of Bougara, situated on the southern edge of the Mitidja plain at the foot of the Atlas mountains. Like the other rural churches of the Blida wilaya, it was built to serve the European settler community during the colonial period.

Bougara Commune

Bougara (formerly known as Joinville during the French colonial period) is one of the larger communes of Blida wilaya. Its renaming after independence reflects the broader project of reclaiming Algerian toponymy from colonial designations.
