Bahia Yountrane was born on 28 January 1940 in Douiret to Omar and Medane Aïcha. Known for her intelligence and warmth, she excelled academically at Strasbourg and Galieni Technical Schools.

A Teenage Resistance Fighter

At just 16 years old, Bahia became a liaison agent for the National Liberation Army — one of the most dangerous roles in the urban resistance network. She delivered weapons and sensitive documents across Blida's streets, evading colonial checkpoints and surveillance.

Her family bore the costs of the revolution directly: multiple relatives were arrested and her brothers were detained by authorities. Despite this, she refused to step back.

Joining the Armed Struggle

In 1957, Bahia joined her siblings Ali and Chaâbane in the full armed struggle, leaving behind civilian life to fight alongside the ALN fighters in the field.

Martyrdom

Bahia Yountrane was martyred in 1958. She was just 18 years old.

Legacy

Remembered across Douiret for her intelligence, kindness, and unwavering commitment to Algeria's freedom, Bahia Yountrane stands as one of the many young women whose contributions to independence have too often gone unrecognized. She gave her youth — and her life — for a free Algeria.
