Abdelkader Yousfi was born on 2 September 1926 in El Ammaria, Médéa Province, to a modest farming family. He was shaped by the land and by the injustices he witnessed under colonial rule.
A Leader in the Revolution
Yousfi joined Algeria's revolutionary movement at its very inception in 1954, taking up the struggle in the Blidean Atlas — the rugged mountain territory south of Blida that became a key theatre of guerrilla warfare.
As a political officer for Wilaya IV, his role was not only military but also ideological: he worked to maintain the political clarity and motivation of fighters under his command, and to build the revolutionary networks that would sustain the independence movement.
Combat and Sacrifice
Through intense revolutionary activity, his forces inflicted heavy losses on French colonial troops in the Atlas region. His leadership earned both the loyalty of his fighters and the attention of the enemy.
On 10 September 1958, Abdelkader Yousfi was fatally wounded during combat in Kaf El Hussein, Bouarfa, Blida. He was 32 years old.
Legacy
Following independence, Algeria honored his sacrifice:
- A middle school in Zitoune was named after him
- A street in Blida bears his name
Abdelkader Yousfi is remembered as one of the committed political and military leaders who gave their lives ensuring that the Algerian Atlas and the Blida region were defended with conviction and courage.
