Overview

Kafil El Yatim Blida (كافل اليتيم — "Guardian of the Orphan") is the Blida chapter of the national Algerian orphan-care association Kafil El-Yatim. The name is drawn from a hadith of the Prophet Muhammad: "I and the guardian of an orphan will be like this in Paradise" — positioning orphan care as one of the highest acts of religious merit in Islamic tradition.

National Network, Local Action

Kafil El-Yatim operates as a national association with chapters (wilayas) across Algeria. The Blida chapter works within the broader network while addressing the specific needs of orphaned children in the wilaya.

Scale of Need

The orphan care crisis in Algeria was exacerbated by the Black Decade (1991–2002), during which thousands of children lost parents to political violence — see [[archives/history/beni-ali-massacre|Beni Ali Massacre (1997)]]. Earlier generations of orphans resulted from the [[archives/history/ouled-yaich-massacre|Algerian War of Independence]] massacres.
