El Motribia (الموطربية — "the Music-Maker" or "that which brings joy through music") is one of Blida's four historic Andalusian classical music associations. Together with [[lifestyle/communities/Music Associations/el-djenadia|El Djenadia]], [[lifestyle/communities/Music Associations/el-widadia|El Widadia]], and [[lifestyle/communities/Music Associations/nedjma|Nedjma]], it forms the institutional backbone of Blida's living Andalusian musical heritage.
The Andalusian Music Tradition in Blida
Blida is one of the primary centres of Gharnati (Grenadan) Andalusian classical music in Algeria — the musical tradition brought by Moorish refugees expelled from Al-Andalus in 1492 and 1609. These refugees settled in cities along the North African coast, carrying with them the sophisticated modal music of Islamic Iberia.
The tradition survived through the Ottoman period, the French colonial era, and independence, sustained by associations like El Motribia.
