Overview

Bougendoura Palace is a heritage palace located in Larbaa, a commune of the Blida wilaya situated on the Mitidja plain east of Blida city. The palace reflects the residential architecture of the Algerian landed elite during the Ottoman and early post-Ottoman periods — large-scale private residences built around internal courtyards, with ornate stucco work and tiled surfaces.

Architectural Character

Like other elite residences of the region, Bougendoura Palace likely features:

  • A central courtyard (patio) with a fountain
  • Horseshoe arches and decorative tilework (zellige or faïence)
  • Carved stucco (gebs) on walls and ceilings
  • A qbu (domed reception room) for formal gatherings

Location: Larbaa

Larbaa is one of the larger communes of Blida wilaya, an agricultural and market town on the plain. Its position at the intersection of old trade and military routes gave it strategic importance during both the Ottoman and French colonial periods.
